Bartolomeu Barreto (1784-1845) was a wealthy Portuguese merchant from Macau who commissioned a service bearing the family's coat of arms in around 1820.
The tureen with deeply rounded sides and a domed cover with a knop finial, the sides decorated with two panels enclosing a scene of a Dutch landscape, the scene repeated on the cover; the oval plate-warmer bearing the coat of arms of Bartolomeu Barreto (1784-1845) within floral borders.
