Qianlong period monochromatic landscapes on copper bottles are more often in puce than in blue. The Ming-style landscapes in blue with reign mark are most famously done on snuff dishes, including the one from the Tuyet Nguyet and Stephen Markbreiter collection, sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 4 Jun 2021, lot 1033, another at Christie's, Hong Kong, 12 Oct 2021, lot 11, and a third one published in
Blue landscapes on bottles are rare, most of them probably not marked. See one in the Royal Ontario Museum, dated to the mid 18th to mid 19th century acc.no., and another from the Crane collection, accessed . In the footnotes of the 'Crane' bottle, the comparison was drawn from copper enamel in other forms (such as a kettle), and porcelain bottles in underglaze blue from the Qing Dynasty - further evidence of the scarcity of such bottles.
Qianlong marks within a square border are rare on enamelled copper snuff bottles. The mark closest to that on the present bottle, on an example also dated to the Qianlong period, is illustrated in , Hong Kong, 2013, p.380, pl.359. Another bottle dated to the Qianlong period is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, see 張榮,,北京故宮博物院, Taipei, 2008, p.102, though the mark is of seal script and in black enamel.
