The vase rises from a straight foot to a globular body and a waisted neck terminating in a bulbous garlic-shaped mouth. The body and neck are subtly faceted into six sides. It is painted in rich tones of underglaze cobalt blue. The bulbous upper section is decorated as a lotus bud, while the neck is painted with stylised floral motifs. The body is decorated with a scholarly scene depicting a seated scholar beside a fence, attended in the landscape by two servants, one carrying a tray and the other a vase. The foot is encircled by a double line.
