The present figure is distinguished by the rare depiction of ear coverings (eryi), an unusual accessory found on a small number of Tang dynasty pottery figures. Traditionally interpreted as winter ear protection, these coverings suggest that the lady is portrayed in cold-weather attire. Such details provide a rare insight into seasonal dress during the Tang dynasty and are seldom encountered among the more commonly depicted Court ladies wearing light, elegant robes. See a -glazed male figure wearing similar ear coverings, Tang dynasty, excavated from the no.31 Tang tomb, Guodu County, Chang'an District, illustrated in (西安文物精華:三彩), Beijing, 2011, no.76.
