说明：Spanning over three centuries from the early tenth to the thirteenth century, the Dali Kingdom was an independent state in present-day Yunnan province that maintained close cultural ties with the Central Plains of China. Following the introduction of Esoteric Buddhism during the Tang dynasty, the region transformed into a devout Buddhist realm. This profound religious fervor—epitomized by several Dali kings famously abdicating their thrones to take monastic vows—fostered a golden age of Buddhist art. Consequently, Dali sculpture developed a highly distinctive regional identity, seamlessly synthesizing the artistic legacy of the Tang dynasty with South and Southeast Asian aesthetics introduced through maritime trade.
While Acuoye Guanyin is the most frequently encountered deity among surviving Dali bronzes, figures of Ksitigarbha are exceptionally rare. In the present work, the deity is elegantly depicted in the guise of a monk. Although the modeling closely relates to luohan figures from the Central Plains, the figure is clearly identified as Ksitigarbha by the sacred mani jewel held in his hands.

大理國於公元十世紀初建立，至十三世紀初滅亡，國祚逾三百年，疆域為今雲南一帶。大理國雖為獨立王朝，但與中原王朝關係密切。大理國本以當地巫教為信仰，唐代密宗傳入之後佛教則日漸興旺，國王甚至剃度出家，大理遂成為佛國妙香，宗教藝術亦稱鼎盛。大理佛教造型帶有鮮明地方特色，藝術風格上，一方面受中原影響，承襲唐代遺風，另一方面隨海上貿易引入異國文化，融合南亞、東南亞的美學元素。
大理國存世造像常見阿嵯耶觀音，地藏菩薩存世極少。本件地藏菩薩，其造型類似於中原之羅漢，不同處主要在於手持寶珠。可参考崇聖寺出土一件大理國地藏菩薩銅像，現藏雲南省博物館，見《南詔大理文物》，1992年，昆明，圖版60。又可比較巴黎佳士得2023年6月14日售出一件大理國通地藏王菩薩坐像，惟鎏金全失，編號187。
