说明:The present bowl represents a comparatively rare example of exquisite quality Ding ware featuring a large peony spray, in contrast to more typical lotus designs. This variation appears to represent a more refined and abstract predecessor to later more naturalistic peony designs termed Ti 30 by Jan Wirgin (see Sung Ceramic Designs, Gothenburg, 1970, p. 141-142).
Compare a bowl of closely related peony design in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, which was included in the Museum's Special Exhibition of Ting Ware White Porcelain, Taipei, 1987, cat. no. 38; compare also a closely related bowl from the collections of Alfred Schoenlicht and Frederick M. Mayer, in Regina Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Meiyintang Collection, vol. I, London, 1994, pl. 360; and a dish of related design from the collection of Peter Harris, included in Exhibition of Sung Dynasty Wares, Oriental Ceramic Society, London, 1949, cat. no. 22, later sold in these rooms, 26th April 1955, lot 104.
