Crisply formed as a stylised lotus bud, the ten-lobed body elegantly tapering to a waisted foot, further applied with pewter wires to the borders to resemble the lotus petals, covered overall in a brownish-black lacquer except for the interior and recessed base painted in red, fitted box.

Lacquer boxes with lobed sides and pewter-wire decoration are particularly characteristic of Yuan dynasty lacquer. Such boxes were likely used to store cosmetics, hair ornaments and other personal adornments. See a similar black lacquer lobed box and cover, late 13th/early 14th century, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, gift of Florence and Herbert Irving (acc.no.2015.500.1.21a–c). Another black lacquer box and cover, 13th/14th century, from the Arthur M. Sackler Collection, is now in the National Museum of Asian Art, Washington, D.C. (acc.no.S1987.388a–b). 盒直口深腹，弧壁向下稍斂，淺足外侈。盒外及口沿髹黑漆，盒內及底髹朱漆。外壁起棱，作十瓣蓮花形。
元代常見此類蓮瓣式並鑲錫邊之漆盒，多用以貯藏脂粉、髮飾及其他隨身佩飾。參考紐約大都會藝術博物館藏一件十三世紀晚期/十四世紀早期黑漆蓮瓣式蓋盒，為歐雲伉儷所贈（館藏編號2015.500.1.21a–c）。另見賽克勒舊藏一件十三/十四世紀黑漆蓋盒，現藏華盛頓國立亞洲藝術博物館（館藏編號S1987.388a–b）。再參考一件元代黑漆蓮瓣式盒，見《Homage to Heaven, Homage to Earth: Chinese Treasures of the Royal Ontario Museum》，多倫多，1992年，圖版15。克利夫蘭藝術博物館亦藏一件元代黑漆蓋盒，見S.E.Lee與W.K.Ho合著《Chinese Art Under the Mongols: The Yuan Dynasty》，克里夫蘭，1968年，圖版284。
