A finely potted blue and white Kraak plate with panelled decoration, painted in soft and deeper tones of underglaze cobalt blue. The central decoration depicts a large grasshopper perched on refined rockwork, with a small dragonfly above, flowering chrysanthemums to the left, and a large peony to the right. The rim is divided into eight large panels with alternating flowers and insects, interspersed with smaller panels filled with diamond and dot motifs. The reverse has the same panelled division, with alternating cartouches decorated with peaches and insects, interrupted by highly stylised cloud motifs that almost resemble nails. The centre bears a finely executed egret mark with a slightly open beak.
