A bowl with a broad, flattened everted rim, commonly referred to as a klapmuts. It is finely enamelled in the famille verte palette with flowering prunus branches issuing from pierced Taihu rocks, accompanied by bamboo and other blossoming plum trees. The central medallion on the interior is decorated with a large peony borne on a leafy stem. The upper surface of the rim is ornamented with four cartouches enclosing peonies, separated by geometric diaper panels in yellow and green. The underside of the rim is further decorated with flowering prunus branches and sections of tree trunks.
The name klapmuts derives from the Dutch word for a soft, broad-brimmed cap, whose shape resembles the bowl's wide, everted rim. Although the form is distinctly Chinese in manufacture, it was developed specifically for export, reflecting the adaptation of Jingdezhen potters to European tastes and dining practices. As such, the klapmuts bowl is an important example of the cultural exchange that characterised the porcelain trade between China and Europe during the seventeenth and eighteenth century.
Klapmuts bowls are encountered far more frequently in blue and white porcelain than in famille verte enamels. Finely decorated examples such as the present bowl are comparatively rare.
一件五彩折沿碗，寬沿平折外撇，器形在西方通常稱為「克拉普穆茨碗」（klapmuts）。碗內以五彩繪梅竹圖，梅枝自玲瓏太湖石間斜出，伴以修竹及其他盛放的梅樹。碗心開光內繪一朵折枝牡丹，枝葉舒展。折沿正面設四組開光，內繪牡丹，開光之間飾黃、綠彩幾何錦地紋，折沿背面另繪折枝梅花及樹幹。
「Klapmuts」一名源自荷蘭語，原指一種柔軟的寬沿帽，因其外形與此類碗寬闊外撇的折沿相似而得名。此器雖由中國工匠燒製，卻是為外銷市場特別發展的造型，反映景德鎮窯工因應歐洲審美及飲食習慣所作的調整，亦是十七至十八世紀中歐瓷器貿易與文化交流的典型例證。
此類折沿碗以青花器最為常見，五彩品種則相對少見，如本品般裝飾精細者尤為難得。
