White Tara, the goddess of longevity and compassion, is depicted seated in lalitasana upon a lotus throne, her right hand extended in varadamudra and her left raised holding a lotus stem. Adorned with an elaborate jeweled crown, necklaces, and earrings, she wears flowing orange and blue robes with intricately patterned borders. A dark green nimbus and an elaborate aureole of scrolling foliage frame her figure.
The upper register depicts a Tibetan lama wearing a red hat, flanked by two seated figures. The lower register includes Magzor Gyalmo and a worldly protector deity.
The composition is distinguished by its saturated blue ground, densely arranged peonies, delicate green foliage, and stylized cloud formations. The refined facial features, intricate textile patterns, and decorative floral vocabulary reflect nineteenth-century Tibetan painting traditions. A similar thangka was sold at Christie's, Paris, 14 June 2006, lot 412.
