Provenance
Private American Collection
Seated in a meditative posture on a cushion throne, this figure depicts a lama wrapped in a meditation cloak engraved with blooming foliage, with his legs folded beneath him. He holds a vajra in his lifted right hand and a ghanta lowered in his left hand. His charming face, with a meditative expression, is surmounted by the pointed pandita hat. It is possible that it is an image of Zanabazar Yeshe Dorje (1635–1723). See a similar figure of Yeshe Dorje sold at Christie's, New York, 13 September 2016, lot 203, and another similar 18th-century figure (HAR 8101).
