The single-board top set into a mitred, mortise-and-tenon concave frame supported by three stretchers on the underside, the frame set over a galleried waist both carved with an elegant key fret band, repeated on the slender legs and the beaded openwork apron of kui scrolls joined to the waist by a series of oval ring cut-outs on the long and short sides, the legs terminating in scrollwork feet.

General Joseph Warren Stilwell (1883-1946) known as 'Vinegar Joe' was commander of the United States forces in the CBI (China-Burma-India) theater during the late 1930's and until 1944, and was famous for his role as a deputy commander of the Burma-India area under Admiral Louis Mountbatten and a military advisor to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek.
