The present example exemplifies the Qing period taste for opulent interior furnishings, combining imperial zitan with precious materials including jade, glass, metal, and cloisonné enamel to create an elaborate and luxurious decorative effect.
Compare two table screens embellished with jade carvings, both in the Qing Court Collection and illustrated in , Beijing, 2013, pl. 74 and 79; the latter similarly with decorated with jade 'boy' figures and inlaid with glasswork amidst a landscape pavilion setting.
