The ovoid bottle tapering to a narrow, flared neck, flat rim and small mouth, delicately painted with a continuous scene of flowering peonies issuing from rocky outcroppings, a long-tailed bird perched on one branch with a young fledgling in flight above, set off at the shoulder by a cloud collar and pink floral meander band, over a colophon reading Ye Mao zhi zhi lu; hua kai yue yue hong, the base with two-character mark in blue enamel.

The inscribed two-line poem reads:
葉茂枝枝綠
花開月月紅
and may be approximately translated as:
Verdant leaves flourish on every branch,
while crimson blossoms bloom month after month.
The quality of the enameling and subject matter of this bottle point toward a possible attribution to Ye Bengqi, the third son of Ye Zhongsan, as a product of his study of the bottles in the Palace Museum Collection. See Moss, Graham and Tsang, , vol. I, no. 205, pp. 352-3 for a discussion of his work, style and inspiration.
