说明:Vases of this distinctive form decorated in a sumptuous apple-green enamel are exceedingly rare. While monochromes of this shape are highly prized, the application of this specific green enamel makes the present piece an exceptional rarity within Yongzheng imperial production.
The bulbous silhouette of the vase draws inspiration from archaic bronze wine vessels dating back to the Warring States period (475–221 BC). On these archaic bronze prototypes, the raised rope-twist motif originally emulated the utilitarian cordage utilised by northern nomadic cultures to transport vessels, while the globular body and twin loop handles cleverly allude to the structure of a traditional fishing basket. A bronze hu-form wine vessel displaying a closely related raised rope-twist pattern was excavated from a Warring States tomb at Mujiazhuang in Pingshan, Hebei province, and is illustrated in Warring States Treasures: Cultural Relics from the State of Zhongshan, Hebei Province, Hong Kong, 1999, pp. 144–145, no. 56. Compare also a related bronze hu with similar decoration dated to the Han dynasty, compiled in the imperial catalogue Xiqing gujian, juan 21.
For other Yongzheng mark and period monochrome examples of this archaic form, see a celadon-glazed example of similar size from the Shanghai Museum, published in Qingdai Yongzheng - Xuantong guanyao ciqi, Shanghai bowuguan cangpin yanjiu daxi, Shanghai, 2014, fig. 5-22. See two further celadon-glazed examples: the first was sold in these rooms, 26th October 2003, lot 53; the second was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 3rd June 2015, lot 3103. This revered aesthetic endured well into the subsequent reign, exemplified by a Qianlong-marked example in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Monochrome Porcelain, The Complete Collection of the Palace Museum, vol. 37, Hong Kong, 1999, p. 155, no. 140.

AN OLD HONG KONG FAMILY COLLECTION
Passed down through the family from the present owner’s grandfather, this collection has its beginnings in the life and interests of an industrialist from a prominent East Asian family. Raised in an environment steeped in the culture of connoisseurship, he began acquiring works of art in the 1920s. His interests
ranged widely, encompassing painting and calligraphy, epigraphic and scholar’s objects, ceramics, and the many refined pursuits of the cultivated studio.
Works from the collection were lent to museums for exhibition, while selected pieces were illustrated in publications produced in collaboration with fellow collectors, opening the collection to a wider circle of connoisseurs. After the Second World War, his business interests extended to Hong Kong, and his life
came to be divided between Hong Kong and his home country. The ceramics offered here are principally from the Ming and Qing dynasties. For decades, they
were displayed throughout the family residence, built in Hong Kong in the 1940s, among its living rooms and studies, quietly accompanying the daily life of a
family shaped by taste, scholarship, and the pleasures of collecting.
Further works from the collection are offered in the concurrent Chinese Art sale, lots 6001–6013 and 6080–6086. After more than half a century beyond public view, these works now pass once again into the wider world. Their return offers an
opportunity to appreciate their beauty anew, while also providing a glimpse into the cultivated taste and discerning eye of the collector who assembled them.
