The diminutive size suggests that this image was likely intended as a portable devotional object, perhaps carried by a pilgrim. It brings to mind the renowned Helgo Buddha, an 8.4 cm high bronze dated to the 6th or 7th century and probably made in Swat Valley. Found at the Viking-era settlement of Helgo in Sweden, it demonstrates the long-distance circulation of Buddhist devotional images. Stylistically the figure's robe and posture compare closely with bronzes from the Danesar Khera hoard found in Uttar Pradesh, notably a 6th-century Buddha now in the British Museum (1969,0725.1).
