Golden pheasants and flowers
Ink and colour on silk, hanging scroll, painted with a pair of golden pheasants, one lowering its head and looking back beside a spray of orchids, the other stretching its neck towards a rock beside it, from the top of which emerge several white lilies, with inscriptions reading ’Zichendian yuhua' and 'Tian xia yi ren', and seals reading 'Yushu zhibao', 'Yushu Yin' and 'Yuanyou zhibao' , 117cm x 45cm.
Provenance: Acquired by Sir James Stewart Lockhart (1858-1937) through Tse Tsan-tai (1872-1938), Hong Kong, November 1912, for HK $180 (Sir James Stewart Lockhart, Notebook, dated 1910-1921, p. 7, NLS Acc. 12695/26c);
