Basil Ionides (1884–1950) was a distinguished British architect, interior designer and collector, best known for the rebuilding of the Savoy Theatre in London and his influential writings on interior decoration. In 1930 he married the Hon. Nellie Ionides (née Samuel, 1883–1962), daughter of Marcus Samuel, 1st Viscount Bearsted, who was herself a renowned connoisseur of Chinese porcelain. Together they acquired Buxted Park, Sussex, in 1931, restoring the house and assembling one of Britain's most celebrated private collections of decorative arts and Chinese ceramics.
