The statue:
Tarnishing to the metal, extensive wear to the gilding and lacquer, and indentations consistent with age. One tip of the crown is missing, possibly due to a firing flaw. The rear edge of the stand is disconnected in two places, with no material missing, and is slightly deformed and bent inward, likely resulting the horizontal crack of approx. 7cm long to top of the base. An oval area of restoration infill, approximately 1.3 cm across, is visible on the lower left of the back. Casting flaws resulted in pits on the surface.

The figure seated in padmasana on a double-lotus throne, their body clad in thickly-folded robes and bedecked in beaded jewellery, their face downcast in a serene expression beneath the five-pointed crown depicting the Buddhas of the five directions, 61.5cm high, on a hongmu stand formed as a rectangular low table.
Provenance: an important London private collection.
The reverse is inscribed: ‘In the ninth year of the Hongzhi period (1496), the monk Lian, while raising funds for religious purposes, travelled to [unreadable place name] in Huguang, to Lin Family Village at Linjiangkou, to pray for blessings…’
