The Kakiemon patterns and their distinctive palette were highly sought-after in the early 1750s, with Chelsea and Bow vying to produce the best copies and interpretations to appeal to fashionable clientele. A hexagonal coffee cup and saucer and prototype Japanese beaker with a version of this design from the Elizabeth Adams Collection was sold by Bonhams on 19 June 2024, lot 293. Like so many oriental sources, Chelsea may have been viewing this taste through the lens of a more recent Continental interpretation. Ornamental shapes were also produced, see the vase and cover from the Crane Collection, sold by Bonhams on 31 March 2010, lot 51.
