Rising from steep sides to high shoulders, the waisted neck ending in a flaring rim, the main frieze painted in a continuous scene of three noblemen atop a pavilion, overlooking five ladies riding horses, entering the gates and parading in the garden with overgrowth of vine trellis, with one of the overjoyed figures leaping beyond the balcony greeting them, all beneath a figure of a seated deity at the neck, fitted box.

The scene painted on this vase may be derived from the Ming-Qing classic . The figure seated within the elevated pavilion is Emperor Yang of , watching palace ladies gallop and race horses within the imperial garden. This depicts the ruler indulging in lavish pastimes at his palace, a highly popular historical motif on porcelain of the late Ming and early Qing periods, sometimes classified as a 'knight-figure' () narrative scene.
Compare a related famille-rose vase, Yongzheng, painted with hundred antiques, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in , Shanghai, 1999, pl.52. See also a famille-rose vase, Yongzheng, decorated with a couple beneath two phoenixes in flight, which was sold at Christie's London, 23 May 2012, lot 96
本瓶所繪紋飾考其典故，應取材自明清經典小說《隋唐演義》中之故事。高樓臺閣之上端坐者乃隋煬帝，正居高臨下俯瞰宮娥於御苑內策馬奔騰、競相騎射。此畫面生動再現隋煬帝於江都宮沉溺遊宴、觀宮人騎射之奢靡情景，乃晚明至清初瓷器上極為流行之歷史人物題材，有時或歸類為「刀馬人」故事場景。
比較北京故宮博物院藏一雍正粉彩博古圖瓶，著錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集：琺瑯彩·粉彩》，上海，1999年，圖版52。另可比較一件雍正粉彩雙鳳呈祥人物圖瓶，售於倫敦佳士得，2012年5月23日，拍品編號96。
