the moudled rails with foliate carving; the gondola-form back rail terminating in two compartments with hinged lids covered on the underside with leather panels embossed with the crest of the Maurel de Volonne family; the serpentine seat rails raised on four cabriole legs; covered in pale green leather

说明：The Louis XV menuisier Etienne Meunier (maître c. 1732) was the head of a dynasty of 18th-century Parisian chairmakers based in the Rue de Cléry in the Right Bank of the capital and was particularly known for his production of caned desk chairs. A very similar fauteuil de bureau with hinged armrest compartments that has been attributed to Meunier is in the Louvre, Paris [OA 8092] (Bill Pallot, Le mobilier du Musée du Louvre, Dijon 1993, Vol. II no. 18 p. 69). Other comparable models stamped by or attributed to Meunier are found in the Metropolitan Museum, New York [21.34; donated by the Duveen Brothers] and the Getty Museum, Los Angeles [71.DA.91; formerly Anna Thompson Dodge Collection].
