Elegantly potted with deep rounded sides rising from a short foot, the exterior is painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a winged yinglong soaring among scrolling clouds. The 'Yinglong', a mythical winged dragon recorded in early Chinese texts, symbolises divine power, protection and auspicious blessings.
Encircling the exterior below the rim is a lengthy dedicatory inscription:
大明國西江道饒州府樂平縣永善鄉諸奉里太安社信士弟子吳鎮□喜捨為福地齊雲山聖境案前永遠供奉立
It records that the bowl was donated by a devotee named Wu Zhen[...] from Leping County, Jiangxi Province, for perpetual offering before the sacred altar at Qiyun Mountain, one of China’s most important Daoist sacred sites (last character of the name illegible).
The centre of the interior is painted with a leaping carp, while the sides depict a mackerel, silver carp, carp and mandarin fish swimming among aquatic plants. Their Chinese names—qing, lian, li and gui—form the rebus Qing Lian Li Gui (清廉禮貴), conveying wishes for integrity, propriety and noble status. The interior and exterior decoration thus unite auspicious imagery with the bowl’s religious function.
The base bears a six-character underglaze-blue date inscription within a double circle:
大明萬曆戊寅年記
Da Ming Wanli Wuyin nian ji
“Recorded in the Wuyin year of the Wanli reign”
The Wuyin year corresponds to 1578, the sixth year of the Wanli reign. Combining a precise date, an extensive dedicatory inscription and a documented Daoist purpose, the present bowl is an exceptionally rare example of Ming-dynasty blue and white porcelain.
碗敞口，深弧腹，下承矮圈足。外壁以青花繪展翅應龍穿行於祥雲之間，姿態矯健生動。應龍為中國古代神話中的有翼神龍，象徵神權、祥瑞與護佑。
口沿外壁環書青花楷書銘文：
大明國西江道饒州府樂平縣永善鄉諸奉里太安社信士弟子吳鎮□喜捨為福地齊雲山聖境案前永遠供奉立
碗心繪游魚一尾，內壁飾鯖魚、鰱魚、鯉魚及鱖魚穿游於水草之間。四種魚名分別借音 ‘清’、‘廉’、‘禮’、‘貴’，組成 ‘清廉禮貴’ 的吉祥寓意，寄託清正廉潔、崇禮顯貴之願。內外紋飾相互呼應，兼具吉祥寓意與宗教供奉性質。
底心青花雙圈內書六字紀年款：
大明萬曆戊寅年記
戊寅年對應萬曆六年，即1578年。此碗兼具明確紀年、完整供養銘文及道教供器性質，頗為罕見，具有重要的歷史與宗教文化價值。
