Of tapered rectangular section, carved in high relief on its principal face with a central Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a lotus pedestal, flanked by two standing attendant Bodhisattvas beneath an arched, tiled niche surmounted by drapery swags and tassels, all above two kneeling figures of donors in devotion, the sides further carved with recessed niches containing standing Bodhisattvas, the dark greyish-black stone with a smooth, aged patina, fitted box.

This stone devotional stele is a rare dated example from the Eastern Wei dynasty (534–550). The precise inscription on top, reads Wuding wunian liuyue san ri fodiczi Zhao Erfu jingzao, which may be translated as 'On the 3rd day of the 6th month in the 5th year of Wuding [AD 547], the Buddhist disciple Zhao Erfu respectfully made this'.
The style of the present lot exemplifies the distinct transition from the stylised, elongated forms of the Northern Wei to the fuller, more rounded sculptural modelling characteristic of the Eastern and Western Wei periods. The central Buddha is depicted with draped robes cascading in rhythmic, rhythmic folds over the throne, framed by an architectural niche decorated with hanging tassels — a hallmark of mid-6th century Buddhist stone carving.
Compare a slightly larger stone stele (20.5cm), similarly carved with Buddhist triads on both side, Northern Qi dynasty, from the collections of Yamaguchi Kenshiro (1886-1957) and Mineo Hata, which was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 5 May 2026, lot 326.

本品之藝術風格，完美體現由北魏時期清秀清瘦、衣褶飄逸之造型，向東魏、西魏時期更趨豐滿圓潤之風格轉變關鍵期。主尊佛陀身著雙肩下垂之佛衣，衣褶層疊重覆、具韻律感地鋪覆於佛座之上；佛像身處拱形龕內，龕頂飾有垂纓流蘇紋飾，此乃六世紀中期佛教石雕之典型特點。
參見一件尺寸略大（20.5公分）、兩面均精雕一佛二菩薩三尊像之北齊石造像碑，經山口謙四郎與秦峰男遞藏，售於香港蘇富比，2026年5月5日，拍品編號326。
