Good condition with typical surface wear, especially at the extremities. Occasional casting flaws including to the torso, as visible in the lot photographs, occasionally retouched with gilding.
There is an area of loss and repair to the reverse of the lotus stand at the bottom (approx 6 x 2.5 cm) with associated cracking and a more extended repair along the base rim.
On the interior, patches of repair are visible and a short section of solder between the two sections of the lotus base.

If a condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot, it is for guidance purposes only. Such condition report may not refer to all faults, restoration, alterations, or adaptations because Sotheby's is not a professional conservator or restorer but rather a condition report is a statement of subjective, qualified opinion genuinely held by Sotheby's. For these reasons, any such condition report is not an alternative to taking your own professional advice regarding the condition of the lot. Prospective buyers should also refer to the Guide for Buyers at Auction which includes important notices concerning the type of property in this sale.

说明:Buddha Shakyamuni is seated in vajraparyankasana on a double lotus throne fitted with a reticulated wood stand carved with stylised dragons and flaming pearl. The Buddha extends his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra, with the left remaining in his lap in the meditation posture, indicating the moment he called the earth goddess Prithvi to witness his triumph over the demon Mara and his subsequent right to enlightenment, Maravijava.
While the undulation of the robe and the fall of the cloth in ridges over the legs maintains the early Ming style, the floral decoration of the borders is a later innovation of the fifteenth century. Compare the floral motif on the robe edges of the standing gilt-bronze figure of Amitabha in the British Museum, dated 3rd year of Chenghua, 1467, illustrated in Wladmimir Zwalf, ed., Buddhism: Art and Faith, London, 1985, cat. no. 302. Compare also the fall of the cloth from Amitabha’s proper left shoulder ending in a single horizontal ridge at the crook of the elbow, evolved from the tripartite fold typical of earlier periods, seen on the Yongle (1403-1424) gilt bronze Buddha in the British Museum, ibid., cat. 305.
