The silver-inlaid couplet reads: '良辰美景賞心樂事', which may be translated as 'an auspicious time, beautiful scenery, pleasing to the heart, and a joyful thing'. This is from a preface written by Xie Lingyun 謝靈運 (385-433 AD).
