Modelled standing with legs apart and arms raised as if to pull a bow, wearing a tightly fitted tunic swaying outwards above the black boots, with padded hems to the collar, sleeve and bottom, the face modelled with rounded cheeks and concentrated expression. The result of Archeolabs thermoluminescence test no. FH-03-09-01-04-TL is consistent with the dating of this lot.

Compare with the painted standing figure in a shooting postur excavated in 1950 at Langjiagou, Hanjiawan, Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, and now in the collection of the Shaanxi History Museum—which shares the same substantial size and richly painted decoration; see also Christie’s Amsterdam, *Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art*, May 21, 2003, lot 345.
