This extraordinary ewer would appear to be without parallel. It is undoubtedly inspired by Persian or Middle Eastern metalwork and Mary White speculates as to whether it may have been intended for wine, or is instead simply a playful take on a coffee pot. The screw-top is a tour de force, and that the glaze colours line up with those on the body so well shows a great deal of consideration.
