Finely carved and decorated with court scenes, framed by various depictions of flowers below and landscapes above. Surrounded by a flower band. The reverse with a lively landscape full of bird couples, e.g. pheasants, cranes and various songbirds.

The elaborate coromandel technique is named after the Southeast Indian Coromandel Coast from where these lacquer works were shipped westwards. It was mainly used on folding screens, which enjoyed great popularity as gifts for high-ranking personalities.
