As visible in the lot photographs, the magnificent vase has glaze chips to the mouth rim and flakes to the blue enamel, for example on the rockwork and the tip of a warrior's cape. There is a crack extending from just below the shoulder through the rockwork and stopping circa 10 cm short of the foot.

说明：本瓶氣勢恢宏，屬康熙晚期燒造的一組珍罕大型棒槌瓶，尺寸近乎一般同類器的兩倍。此類器以筆觸精細、釉彩鮮明及人物構圖宏闊嚴謹著稱，應為康熙朝五彩瓷中尺寸最大的器形之一，亦代表康熙五彩藝術的最高成就。
如此尺寸的傳世例極為罕見。可比較五件繪龍舟競渡圖的棒槌瓶：一件著錄於R. L. Hobson，《The Leonard Gow Collection of Chinese Porcelain》，倫敦，1931年，圖版XXV，編號126；一件售於紐約蘇富比，1976年6月3日，編號478；一件售於倫敦蘇富比，1990年12月16日，編號391；另兩件為Altman舊藏，現藏紐約大都會藝術博物館（館藏編號14.40.83及14.40.85）。
介如堂珍藏另有兩件同等尺寸例，著錄於Jeffrey Stamen及Cynthia Bolk，《A Culture Revealed》，布魯日，2017年，圖版1及60。前者最近售於上海Zhongxuan，2026年4月26日，編號637；其成對器原藏聖路易斯藝術博物館，售於紐約佳士得，2005年3月30日，編號396。另有一件繪《三國演義》故事，曾兩度售於倫敦蘇富比：1973年2月27日，編號80；及2007年11月7日，編號329；其後再售於紐約佳士得，2022年9月23日，編號928。
本瓶描繪一對青年男女俯身拜見武將，武將似於營帳前起舞。此場景在文學典籍中的確切出處尚待考證，惟很可能取材自《三國演義》。可比較一件尺寸較小、似描繪同一故事不同場面的棒槌瓶，先後售於倫敦蘇富比，1972年5月9日，編號105，及1995年5月16日，編號71；另可參考英國皇家收藏一件瓜棱式瓶，著錄於John Ayers，《Chinese and Japanese Works of Art in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen》，卷一，倫敦，2016年，圖版454。
