As can be seen in the illustrations, there is some surface wear including slight dents, rubbing and small losses to the lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay in places consistent with the age and use of the object, there is some wear around the metal fittings, there lock plate and metal fittings with some old wear and rubbing to the gilt, the fitting to the right of the reverse with a horizontal crack through the centre, some of the fittings slightly loose, the black lacquer interiors with some old wear, including dents, scratches and chips to the lacquer, scratches and dents to the wood base, consistent with being placed.

the domed casket of kamaboko form with loop handle, chased and engraved copper-gilt lock plate and fittings, decorated in gold hiramaki-e and inlays of mother-of-pearl on a black lacquer ground, with profusion of mandarin orange (tachibana), bellflowers, morning glory and bush clover, the decoration of the cover and front divided into three panels separated by bands of geometric shell inlay, black lacquer interior, accompanied by a later fitted wood storage box
