Raised on four archaistic splayed legs issuing from stylized elephant heads, each inlaid with a pearl eye, the vessel of rectangular form, the two broader sides worked in relief with confronting dragons and phoenixes chasing central inlaid stones, the two narrower sides each with a coiled chilong and further gems, surmounted by a fitted openwork wood cover pierced with lotus scroll, rising to a tourmaline bead finial on a gilt lotus pedestal, the base incised with a mark, possibly read as 'hetang'.
4 9/16in (11.6cm) high vessel only;
5 5/16in (13.5cm) high overall
(with tourmaline-finialed wood cover).
