Beijing Palace Glass Workshops, of ovoid form, with a waisted neck, flat lip and protruding oval footrim, the milk-white body overlaid with a layer of deep brown, and a second layer consisting of dabs of applied glass in russet, pale yellow, deep green and pink, exquisitely carved and integrated with the first overlay, to depict a continuous scene of magpies in the top of a blossoming prunus tree growing from rockwork, a butterfly above, the footrim carved from the brown overlay.
Note: All the elements of this exceptional bottle convey auspicious wishes. For example, magpies in the top of a prunus tree signify the wish “May you have joy to the top of your eyebrows,” and the butterfly symbolizes long life and good fortune.
