Flower-rimmed ceramic dishes began to gain popularity during the mid-to-late Tang dynasty, reached the height of their popularity during the late Tang and Five Dynasties period, and continued to be widely produced and used throughout the Song dynasty. Their forms were influenced by contemporary gold and silver vessels. See possible prototypes of six five-lobed gilded silver dishes, Tang dynasty, excavated from Fufeng county, Shaanxi Province, illustrated in (中國美術全集:金銀器玻璃器一), Hefei, 2010, p.170.
