In the Tang dynasty, attendants holding various household objects were often depicted on tomb murals for the elite class. By the Song and Jin, burial chambers in North China began to imitate the architecture facade with carved stone or pottery panels. Musicians, servants, and even family members were also carved in high relief and incorporated into the chamber designs.
Compare, for example, the carved pottery panel of a lady attendant holding a cloth-wrapped bundle, in the collection of the Luzhou Museum, illustrated in , Beijing, 2022, p. 140.
The results of the thermoluminescence testing are consistent with the suggested dating of this lot, Oxford Authentication sample Nos. C125r61 and C125r62, 5 November 2025.
