Footnotes
或為周及其後 玉勒子、環及虎符等 一組五件
款識:(一)君佩奇珍,良玉爲寶,共推三代,玩賞宜人。
(二)虎符
The inscription on the jade tiger mask ornament reads hufu (虎符) meaning 'tiger tally.' The term derives from ancient bronze tiger-shaped tallies that served as credentials for granting military authority upon officials and authorising the mobilisation of troops.
The inscription on the white jade bead, lezi, may be translated as:
You wear a rare treasure; fine jade is its precious substance. Together it evokes the Three Dynasties, delightful to admire and appreciate.
Compare this with a related inscribed white jade bead, , 19th century, which was sold at Sotheby's London, 16 June 2020, lot 227.
