The unique creation of juxtaposing the Buddhist monk with the abstract image of light and shades, described by Flacks: 'The matching of this figure with Majewski's image of a hand was initially purely instinctive. The ghostly imprint of the palm, perhaps reminiscent of the (hand gestures) so central to Buddhist iconography, combined with the warm, rich colours and the otherworldly quality, probably inspired this choice.'
A closely-related creation by Marcus Flacks of a scholar's rock and a backdrop of elephants within a wood frame was sold at Christie's London, 12 May 2026, lot 47.
