说明:Usually featuring a pair of raised lines circling the exterior, designs of this coloration appear to sit in conversation with bronze wares and emerged in the Qing court under the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (1662–1722) with dishes of related design but plain rims. Compare two Kangxi dishes dated in accordance with 1672 preserved in the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai and the Percival David Collection at the British Museum, London, respectively: the former in Wang Qingzheng, ed., Kangxi Porcelain Wares from the Shanghai Museum Collection, Hong Kong, 1998, pl. 226; and the latter in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares in the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art, London, 1989, no. A 532.
Similar designs with plain rims continued to be produced under the Yongzheng (1723-1735) and Qianlong (1736-1795) reigns; see a Yongzheng example in the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, illustrated in He Li, Chinese Ceramics. A New Standard Guide, London, 1996, pl. 573; and a pair of Qianlong mark and period included in Monochrome Ceramics of Ming and Ch’ing Dynasties, Min Chiu Society and The Urban Council, Hong Kong Museum of Art, 1977, cat. no. 96.
Far rarer, however, are dishes of this design with a foliate rim, which appear to be a Qianlong innovation. Compare a closely related pair of dishes of this design from the H.M. Knight Collection, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29th November 1979, lot 326; and another dish sold at Christie’s New York, 19th March 2008, lot 670.
