In the 14th/15th century, Longquan chargers of this large size with boldly carved floral sprays were predominately made for diplomatic gifts from the Ming Court and for export trades. The best examples were commissioned and treasured by the Ottoman Court in present day Istanbul. Compare the large Longquan charger sold at Sotheby's New York, 20 March 2024, lot 148, described as Yongle period.
