说明：Extraordinary in scale and exquisite in sculpting, the present head is a rare and particularly sensitively worked example of oversized sculpture from the 10th or 11th century. Similar figural work is attested in the mountain grottos of Maijishan in Tianshui and appear very seldom at market. Compare a closely related black-lacquered head included in Oriental Sculpture & Works of Art, A&J Speelman, London, January 1999, cat. no. 7, and sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29th October 2026, lot 1191; and a gilt head of somewhat more bulbous size and later date sold at Christie's New York, 22nd March 2007, lot 228.
