Of cylindrical form, the flat cover with a roundel enclosing an inscription in Arabic, al-hamdulillah (Praise be to God), against a ring-punched ground, within a band of prunus flowers. 10.2cm (4in) diam. (2).

The present lot is inscribed in sini, an Arabic script developed in the early Ming dynasty. For a comparable box sold in these rooms, see Bonhams, 12th November 2024, lot 77. Similar boxes were also sold at Sotheby's New York, 13th September 2017, lot 144, and 15th March 2017, lot 560.
