The shallow circular bowl with everted rim with bamboo decoration, raised on an openwork, funnel-shaped stem - also with bamboo decoration - emerging from a vessel flanked by three dragons, on a tripod base. Matching carved wooden bases with decorative openwork. Hallmarked on the base: Shen Chang (in Chinese script) and "GW". Engraved monogram on the vessel in the centre: HLS. Weight: 397 g and 399 g. Thai cigarette case with Kinnari figure in repoussé work, gilded inside. Weight: 100 g.

Shen Chang (慎昌) was one of the most renowned silversmith workshops in Canton and Shanghai during the late Qing dynasty until the early Republican period and was world-famous for the magnificent style of the present objects. The initials "GW" stand for Gem Wo - an important silversmith and craftsman who was active in the mid to second half of the 19th century. His workshop was based in Canton and exported fine silverware to Europe and America
