Edo period, late 17th century
Modelled as an open flowerhead, with fluted sides and scalloped rim, moulded to the well with a double kiku head, richly decorated in iron red, coloured enamels and gilt with panels of flowering and blossoming gardens to the interior, divided by floral and foliate bands, the exterior with a continuous design of flowering, leafy peony stems.
