Repaired breaks to mouth with associated losses, moderate surface wear and soiling, chip to edge of one handle; under uv light no additional repairs or restorations seen.

Finely painted, with wide body, tapering above the low circular foot, the shoulder sloping to a vertical columnar neck flanked by a pair of angular handles; the body decorated with two shaped reserves, one enclosing cranes and a flowering prunus tree, the other with chrysanthemums and butterflies; all against a yellow ground with elaborate lotus scrollwork; the neck similarly decorated, with lappets and diaper borders above the shoulder; the shoulder with a band of iron-red bats flying among clouds on a green ground. Underside with a eight-character mark in seal script reading Zhonghua minguo san shi liu nian, followed by a seal Zhongzheng.

Serving as the Navy's Chief of Naval Plans, Cooke was instrumental in managing the Pacific War and directing the fleet's critical transition from battleship-centric warfare to aircraft carrier task forces. He was present at the Allied invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach and concluded the war as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations.
Following the war, Cooke took command of the United States Seventh Fleet and U.S. Naval Forces, Western Pacific.
