The body of the wine pot is modelled after a peach, surmounted by a bud-shaped filling mouth and supported on a tall, spreading foot. One side is set with an elegantly curved spout and the other with a curved handle, both modelled as twisting branches with applied leaves. Each side of the body is painted in underglaze cobalt blue with peaches and pomegranates among flowering and leafy branches, accompanied by butterflies. The filling mouth is decorated with overlapping lotus petals, echoed by a band of upright lotus-petal panels around the foot.
The peach symbolises longevity and enduring blessings. The many-seeded pomegranate represents numerous offspring and the flourishing of the family line. Together, the motifs convey wishes for longevity, prosperity, good fortune and abundant descendants. The sculptural branch-form spout and handle complement the luscious fruit-and-flower decoration, lending the vessel both a sculptural quality and a lively sense of nature.
