Footnotes
Although early Iznik production set out to emulate blue and white Chinese designs, the Iznik potters quickly developed their own distinct style. Flowers springing from a tuft of leaves was a popular Iznik motif, often featuring the broken stem device, known as kırık dal, which originated from illuminated manuscripts.
