Good overall condition, particularly considering its intricate detail, with small chips and losses to extremities as visible, including: the handle of the ghanta bell, the middle finger of the proper right empty hand, one petal in the crown and tips of lotus leaves to the rear.
If a condition report is provided to assist you with assessing the condition of the lot, it is for guidance purposes only. Such condition report may not refer to all faults, restoration, alterations, or adaptations because Sotheby's is not a professional conservator or restorer but rather a condition report is a statement of subjective, qualified opinion genuinely held by Sotheby's. For these reasons, any such condition report is not an alternative to taking your own professional advice regarding the condition of the lot. Prospective buyers should also refer to the Guide for Buyers at Auction which includes important notices concerning the type of property in this sale.

说明:The square seal Xu Yunlin zhi stamped on to the back of the figure belongs to Xu Youyi (1887-1940), the principal follower, pupil and associate of the master Dehua potter Su Xuejin (1869-1919). As John Ayers explains (see Blanc de Chine. Divine Images in Porcelain, China Institute Gallery, New York, 2002, p. 121), the superb quality of Xu Youyi's work previously led scholars to assume a late eighteenth century date. His works characterised by elaborate details and a consistent milky-white glaze, Xu came from a family of wood carvers and clay sculptures and his pieces remain beloved today. Compare a pair of Wenshu and Puxian figures signed by Xu Yunlin, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 7th April 2013, lot 3196; and a particularly closely related figure of Buddha sat on an almost identical lotus throne, sold at Christie's New York, 23rd September 2022, lot 1025.
For related sumptuously decorated figures of Doumu, the 'Mother of the Big Dipper,' compare one illustrated in P. J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, New York, 1969, pl. 99B; another included in Blanc de Chine. Fabulous Dehua Monochrome Porcelain. The Becker Collection, Venlo, 2019, cat. no. 6; and another almost identical example of Xu Yunlin mark sold at Christie's New York, 2nd June 1994, lot 330, sold alongside a more distant example, lot 335.
