说明:Naturalistically carved with a pheasant resting on a rocky ledge, this charming sculpture ranks among the finest jade carvings and scholar’s objects in the imperial collections, distinguished by its luxurious use of precious white jade, elegant form, and accomplished craftsmanship. The delicate, intricate treatment of the jagged, pierced rockwork within such a compact stone masterfully demonstrates the supreme finesse and sensitivity of the imperial lapidary artists. This lifelike naturalism is characteristic of early Qianlong period imperial jades, contrasting with the heightened stylistic formalism that increasingly came to dominate jade carvings produced in the latter half of the 18th century.
Imbued with auspicious meaning, the golden pheasant (jinji) on rockwork symbolises wealth, success, and longevity. Its phonetic homophony with "gold and good fortune" marks it as a potent wealth emblem, while its status as a high-ranking Qing civil rank badge and one of the Twelve Symbols of Sovereignty underscores its imperial associations, literary sophistication, and noble character.
