Decorated in iron red, green enamels and gilt to the centre with a bijin seated painting a screen and examining a scroll unfurled on her lap, before a decorative floral screen, within a reticulated foliate design border and gilt decorated underglaze blue bands, the exterior with cherry blossom stems.

The elaborate pierced border appears to copy a Chinese famille verte prototype dating from the late Kangxi period. See a near identical example sold at Bonhams London, Export Arts of the China Trade, 18th March 2003, lot 231.
