说明：The form of this elegant porcelain vessel is based on the archaic bronze jue, which was used for heating and pouring wine during rituals in the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Such vessels were often dedicated for temple use as altar vessels. By the Ming dynasty, porcelain jue were preferred over those made of metal for imperial rituals. According to historical records, the founding emperor of the Ming dynasty, Hongwu, decreed that white porcelain vessels should be used in state sacrificial ceremonies. This tradition continued into the Qing dynasty, where vessels of specific colours were strictly designated for various imperial altars; white was the prescribed colour for ceremonies conducted at the Altar of the Moon.
An early Ming dynasty white porcelain jue dated to the Yongle period, excavated in 1982 at the site of the imperial kilns at Jingdezhen, was included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of the Yongle and Xuande Periods Excavated from the Site of the Ming Imperial Factory at Jingdezhen, Hong Kong, 1989, and illustrated in the catalogue, p. 116.

本品器形源自商周時期用作溫酒及注酒之青銅爵，多用作宗廟祭祀之禮器。至明代，宮廷祭祀逐漸以瓷爵取代銅爵。據史料記載，明太祖朱元璋曾下令祭祀大典須使用白瓷禮器。此傳統延續至清代，清宮對各祭壇所用祭器顏色有嚴格規定，其中白釉瓷器乃專供夕月壇（即月壇）祭祀之用。
參考一件1982年景德鎮御窯廠遺址出土之明永樂白釉爵，曾展於《景德鎮珠山出土明初官窯瓷器》展覽，香港，1989年，圖錄頁116。
